About Porcelain Veneers Understanding the Basics

There are numerous misconceptions of how veneers work. Here are three key points to help you understand how and why they are used.

Veneer on a doctor's finger

Thin Porcelain Shells

Veneers are thin shells of tooth-colored porcelain that are fitted over the front of a flawed tooth. A small amount of enamel (less than one millimeter) is removed to accommodate the veneer.

Masking Cosmetic Flaws

With dental veneers in place, imperfections on the front of the teeth are hidden from view. Great care is taken to ensure the veneer fits properly and makes your tooth appear pristine.

Virtually Undetectable

Veneers are semi-translucent, which means light passes through them just like natural teeth. Even up close, most people won't notice your veneers: only your beautiful smile.

Having been a licensed clinical social worker, I recognize in others everything from excellence to mediocrity, professionals notwithstanding. Dr. Balloch is the quintessential professional, a dentist who is a perfectionist, innovative, highly skilled, exceptional, caring, concerned, and, second to none. I am satisfied beyond words to have chosen this practice for my dental needs.  Thanks to Dr. Balloch, dentist phobia, for me, is nonexistent.  I highly recommend Dr. Balloch, and have done so to friends and family.  Many thanks, Dr.Balloch, for bringing me this far along. :)

I highly recommend Dr Balloch and his staff for any dental work.  I had extensive restorative and cosmetic work done recently and everything was done perfect.  Results were great! From the start, the many trip process was explained in detail, all aspects were communicated clearly.  The office was always punctual. One thing I don't have is time to waste, and they didn't waste any of mine. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. Dr Balloch and his assistant Lisa were very caring and concerned about my comfort. They never let me to be in any pain. If I had to do it again I would pick Dr Balloch.

Candidates for Porcelain Veneers Who Should Undergo Treatment

Patients must meet certain criteria to get veneers. We can assess your candidacy during a consultation at our Glastonbury dental practice.

Aesthetically Flawed Teeth

Porcelain veneers are designed for people with cosmetic dental concerns. Patients suffering from serious fractures and dental health issues instead require restorative treatment.

Sufficient Enamel in Place

Since enamel needs to be removed for the dental veneer, patients need to have healthy teeth with enough enamel in place. This ensures the treatment succeeds without leaving your teeth overly sensitive or vulnerable to damage.

Realistic Expectations About Treatment

As with all dental treatments, it's important for patients to have realistic expectations about the risks and benefits of the procedure, proper aftercare, and the cost of dental veneers.

A Leading Glastonbury Dentist Who Takes Time to Listen

After a lot of research, I decided to go to Dr. Balloch for cosmetic dentistry because of the stellar work displayed on his website, and the great reviews his practice has received. The staff at Dr. Balloch's office is very personable and skilled. I immediately felt very comfortable with Dr. Balloch. He has a warm, calm demeanor and really listens to what your dental goals are and provides you with options to achieve them. I didn't at any point feel like he was trying to push me to do work I didn't feel comfortable with. The cost was reasonable and I couldn't be happier with the job he did on my veneers! The size, color and texture blend so well with the rest of my teeth, they look so natural. I feel so comfortable with my smile now!

I have been going here for years. They are very caring and competent. Any procedures that I have had done here have been next to pain free. They have been known to stop and make sure that everything was okay when working on me. I was always fine and I have even experienced them calling me later to check on me. I wholeheartedly recommend this office.

Assessing Candidacy

During your initial visit to our Glastonbury dental practice, we'll perform a full exam, take x-rays, and discuss your cosmetic goals. If dental veneers aren't for you, we can suggest alternatives.

Treatment Planning

Next, the patient and Dr. Balloch will discuss the details of how the veneers should look, personalizing them to the patient's anatomy and cosmetic preferences.

Prepping the Teeth

When prepping a tooth, a small amount of enamel is shaved from the front. Great care is taken to maintain as much healthy enamel as possible for long-term dental wellness.

Taking Impressions

Impressions are taken of each prepped tooth. These impressions are sent to an off-site lab where the dental veneers are custom-crafted for fit and natural appearance.

Temporary Veneers

Until the final dental veneers are completed, patients will wear temporary veneers that will protect the teeth and be shaped and contoured like the permanent ones, so the patient can "try them on." If after a few days of wearing the temporaries the patient wants to make any changes, those changes can be incorporated into the permanent veneers for the best possible outcome.

Crafting the Veneers

Skilled and trusted lab technicians use the finest materials and latest technology available to create dental veneers that blend with natural tooth structure.

Placing the Final Veneers

When patients return to the practice, the temporary dental veneers are removed. The permanent dental veneers are checked for fit and their appearance is approved by the patient and then they are securely adhered in place.

Protecting against Teeth Grinding

Dr. Balloch takes special care to ensure your results will last as long as possible. If a patient has a grinding habit, a special bite guard will be custom-made based on their unique needs.

The Cost of Dental Veneers Budgeting for a Beautiful Smile

Patients have many questions about the price of veneers. The team at our Glastonbury dental center takes time to discuss the cost of treatment, payment methods, financing options, and affordable alternatives.

Average Cost of Veneers

The average cost of dental veneers ranges from $900 to $2,400 and per tooth depending on the complexity of the case. We can provide a cost estimate and breakdown during your visit.

Financing Options

We offer CareCredit® and other payment plans to split the total cost of treatment into more manageable monthly installments. This makes dental veneers possible for many patients.

Discussing Patient Concerns

We want you to be confident about getting dental veneers. We will discuss the cost of treatment and potential alternatives during your consultation so you can have a beautiful smile without serious financial strain.

Outstanding. Hard to describe how beautiful my teeth look. I was a complicated case, and Dr. Balloch and his entire team was completely focused on ensuring everything worked perfectly. I had many extra visits (due to my own issues) and I was always given priority and extra care. The temporaries were so beautiful it was hard to believe the permanents would be even better--but they are. All issues resolved and I couldn't be happier. Tremendous service by the entire staff and amazing outcome. Highly recommend.
