Voiceover: In a recent survey, match.com found that its members rated beautiful teeth even higher than they rated beautiful eyes. Stained, yellow, chipped, and cracked teeth are out. Man: When you're young, you know, dentistry is basically about avoiding cavities. And as you get older, you find that that's actually the least of your problems. Voiceover: Much like medicine, dentistry has taken incredible leaps forward. Patients receive highly personalized solutions plus state-of-the-art technology provided by a prosthodontist, specialist with three to four years of advanced clinical training beyond traditional dental school. Dr. Bidra: As chair of National Prosthodontist Awareness Week, I know that prosthodontists are committed to excellence. Woman 1: If you had a heart problem, you'd go to a cardiologist, not your general practitioner. It's the same thing as going to a prosthodontist. I needed specialized care and I wouldn't have trusted this care with anybody other than a prosthodontist. Voiceover: Prosthodontists are taking traditional dentistry and oral health to a whole new level. Woman 2: I wanted to redo a bridge that I had since I was 19. And it was complicated. I had lost bone and I wanted to do an implant. So I wanted to get my smile perfect. Voiceover: When surgery is necessary, a prosthodontist uses state-of-the-art digital dentistry tools that not only cut surgery time in half but also can improve results. Dr. Bidra: Almost 30% of patients are missing all teeth in their mouth. So we need to provide solutions to those patients. And we as a specialty are very excited to share the new advancements in science and technology to give those solutions to patients. Woman 3: A full mouth health focus with a whole lot of intelligence and skill and knowledge to do it all. Dr. Bidra: If you look at the U.S. and Haynes data and data from the CDC, about 170 million Americans are replacing at least one missing tooth, and almost 40 million, somewhere between 37 to 39 currently, that many million Americans are replacing all teeth in the mouth. So that's actually a pretty big deal. And what's more interesting is 27.7% of patients over the age of 65 are missing all teeth in the mouth, which is a pretty substantial number. So that means there's got to be a way, a technology, there's got to be enough advancement in science to take care of these patients. Doctor: Tip tip. Okay. May I take a look, Ronnie? Doctor: You said you look too young, right? Smile. And after the whitening gets done. Doctor: And again, good. And I'm just going to palpate. Doctor: Feel discomfort when I do this? Woman 4: Little bit. Doctor: Try to even her smile because this side is coming down way too low and this side is coming up. And you can all. . .
