Enhance the Natural Beauty of Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers
Many people feel so self-conscious about imperfect teeth that they avoid smiling or laughing completely.
Dr. Steven M. Balloch provides porcelain veneers to rejuvenate your smile.
Why should you consider porcelain veneers?
About Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain shells that cover the front surfaces of your teeth to conceal imperfections. To place porcelain veneers, Dr. Balloch will first meet with you to discuss your goals and expectations. If you want to lighten the color of your teeth, Dr. Balloch recommends undergoing teeth whitening before placing veneers so that all of your teeth are the same bright color.
THE BENEFITS of veneers
Many turn to porcelain veneers by Dr. Balloch because of their many benefits:
Natural appearance: Made from translucent porcelain in a dental laboratory, veneers interact with light just like natural enamel does, so they look real. Unlike other dental prosthetics, such as metal fillings, porcelain veneers blend in with your smile and are completely inconspicuous.
Improved self-confidence: Your veneers will likely have you smiling more often, and can make a positive impression on those around you.
Award-winning results: Dr. Balloch works with some of the most talented laboratory technicians in the country, and together they have won smile gallery competitions for their stunning work.

When Are Veneers Recommended?
Porcelain veneers can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, including:
- Small fractures and chips: The porcelain completely covers the surface of the tooth, making these imperfections invisible.
- Discoloration or staining: Porcelain veneers are often a solution for patients with intrinsic dental staining that does not respond to whitening treatments.
- Inconsistent shaping: Each veneer is designed to provide an aesthetic complement to surrounding teeth.
- Slight misalignment: If your teeth are misaligned, but not to a degree that would require Invisalign® or traditional orthodontic treatment, veneers can create a more uniform appearance.
Placing Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Balloch has developed a process for porcelain veneers that provides consistent, beautiful smiles for every patient. Once in place, porcelain veneers can provide benefits for years if properly maintained.
At your first appointment, Dr. Balloch will conduct a thorough dental examination, take photographs of your smile, and take impressions of your teeth. You and he will discuss how you want your teeth to look in terms of size and shape, and perhaps review photos so that he can communicate to his laboratory technician exactly how the porcelain veneers should look.
Fabricating the Mockup
The laboratory will then make a wax mockup of your veneers based on your plaster models so that you can preview your results and provide feedback.
Preparing the Teeth
Dr. Balloch will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel (about half a millimeter) from the surfaces of the teeth you wish to treat. Next, Dr. Balloch will take an impression of your teeth to send to his partner dental lab.
Wearing the Temporary Veneers
While talented technicians craft your porcelain veneers, the doctor will make temporary veneers. You will wear these for a few weeks while the permanent veneers are being fabricated.
While you are "trying on" the custom temporary veneers, you will be able to assess how they look in your mouth, and you can let Dr. Balloch know of any things you want to change. Dr. Balloch will also resolve any functional issues. Any cosmetic or functional changes in the temporaries are recorded in a plaster model of the temporaries and sent to the laboratory for incorporation into the final veneers. The results are beautiful veneers designed to give you your best smile.
Placing Your Final Veneers
When your permanent veneers are ready, Dr. Balloch will attach them to your teeth with a special bonding agent so that they remain securely in place.
The whole process involves extensive patient input and provides multiple opportunities to make changes, so the process is very predictable and always yields excellent results.
Dr. Balloch and his staff are true professionals; dedicated, friendly, and precise. I used the sleep dentistry option and felt no discomfort at all. For anyone thinking about getting porcelain veneers, I highly recommend Dr. Balloch and his staff.
Risks of Veneers
Porcelain veneers are a minimally invasive and safe cosmetic procedure. However, if the dentist is not skilled in veneer placement, the risk of certain complications can increase:
- Tooth sensitivity can result from improper or excessive enamel removal during shaping and preparation or from improperly performed cementation protocols. In more severe cases, shaping could damage the second layer of your tooth, the dentin, which could cause discomfort and require restorative treatment.
- Jaw pain. If your dentist fails to ensure that your veneers maintain the natural function of your bite, you could experience malocclusion, which can result in headaches, joint and muscle pain, and other painful symptoms.
- The need for revisional procedures. If your porcelain veneers treatment fails to meet your expectations, you may require costly revisions.
The best way to minimize the risks of a porcelain veneers treatment is to choose an outstanding dentist. Dr. Balloch has more than 30 years of cosmetic dentistry experience and has trained with some of the top cosmetic dentists in the world. He works with award-winning dental technicians and is a respected member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, so you can feel confident in his excellent care.
With a combination of crowns and veneers, Dr. Balloch created a whiter, uniform color, resulting in a very natural looking smile. As for the sedation, it takes the five-to-six-hour visit and makes it feel like an hour nap. It is absolutely the way to go!
The Cost of Porcelain Veneers: Budgeting for a Beautiful Smile
The cost of porcelain veneers is dependent on a number of factors, including the number of veneers being placed, the difficulty of the placement procedure, and the specific scope of the procedure (for example, some patients may require sleep dentistry to achieve their treatment goals due to dental phobia). To determine the cost of porcelain veneers, we recommend you discuss your goals with Dr. Balloch.
The cost of your porcelain veneers and related treatments will mainly depend on the number of veneers you require. Some patients want veneers for all of their visible teeth, while others may only require one veneer. Other important factors include the experience, reputation, and credentials of your dentist. Dr. Balloch was one of the first dentists in New England to perform this procedure (1984) and has placed thousands of veneers since. He is a 19-year member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has won several awards in past AACD Smile Gallery events. He has studied with some of the best cosmetic dentists in the world. Working with a highly trained and experienced cosmetic dentist like Dr. Balloch reduces your risk of costly complications and remakes, and helps you enjoy excellent results.
An Investment in Your Smile and Your Confidence
Porcelain veneers can quickly conceal many cosmetic issues, including chipping, small fractures, irregular spacing, discoloration, or misalignment. They usually require only two dental visits to prepare and place, making them very convenient. Porcelain veneers are also durable and stain-resistant, so with proper care, they can last for many years. If you choose to combine veneers with other cosmetic treatments like teeth whitening and Invisalign®, you can customize your treatment to achieve the smile of your dreams. By enhancing the look of your smile, porcelain veneers can boost your self-esteem and confidence. Visit the porcelain veneers section of our smile gallery to see our beautiful work.
We work to make porcelain veneers affordable for our patients so that they can experience the vast benefits of this treatment. We offer monthly payment plans through CareCredit® for qualified patients.
